Koi

This was a beautiful project. I have enjoyed every moment of it. I have watched koi swim around in ponds and have always enjoyed their markings and movement. I knew at some point I would create one. This koi was made from a flat slab of clay. I rolled it out with a rolling pin. It was shaped around newspaper. I added all of the fins and once dried enough I added the texture of the scales and fin markings. The scales turned out better than imagined and I knew it would take time and patience (especially in the fin area). When glazing I went with a more translucent white, orange and a black gloss. I couldn’t be happier with the results. I think the opacity of the glazes allows a bit of movement that some flatter glosses don’t allow.
