Taxes
It’s that time of year and it has to be done. I started my business officially last year right before I did my first art fair. I bought my business name, got set up with the state and all that good stuff. I just started pottery full time in January after being laid off. I have been working so hard on starting this business, often working 50-60 hours a week. I’m trying to make as much as I can for this summer.
Side note: It’s amazing how much time it takes to post on social media. With taping, editing (minimal) and posting, it’s time I’m not creating. I think it’s a bit of a delicate balance because I know that I am reaching people that I wouldn’t normally and it’s been really fun chatting with people from everywhere! The social media aspect is interesting to say the least.
Any who, back to tax season. It crept up on me but I was able to get it done through turbo tax. I only had a few sales in 2022. Next year I am going to seek a professional because I know there are things that I didn’t claim this year that I need to start keeping track of. Keeping receipts, tracking work mileage, home studio right offs, etc. It’s a world I don’t know much about and it’s my loss if I don’t get it all straightened out. I already report my sales quarterly, so at least I knew about that early on. Good luck in getting your taxes done if you haven’t all ready. If you need to, file for an extension. See ya!
